Much awaited and most requested markdown editor is released by jetpack team with release of jetpack 2.8 , jetpack is plugin with some cool stuffs of wordpress.com blog for self hosted blogs .
What is markdown ?
Markdown is a lightweight markup language, originally created by John Gruber with substantial contributions from Aaron Swartz, allowing people “to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML)”.

if you used tumblr or ghost blogs they are already using markdown for posting . github use markdown for readme files so called github flavored markdown . stackoverflow is another website that use markdown .

well if you disable jetpack in future your posts will remain look same as now . you don’t have to worry about that .

Live preview is missing now , we have to wait for jetpack team to release editor with live preview and uploads functionality like ghost blog support .
